Memorial Day Weekend

Posted: May 21, 2015

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to summer full of cookouts, fireworks, trips to the beach, and a chance to spend with family and friends. But more importantly it is a time to remember and pay honor to those who have died in active military service.

How will you be spending your holiday weekend?

Here in Doylestown we will be attending the oldest Memorial Day Parade in the United States! This year the United Veterans of Doylestown will sponsor the 147th Annual Doylestown Memorial Day Parade. The parade starts at 10:00 AM and leaves from Central Bucks High School West, travels through town, and ends with a ceremony at the cemetery on North Street. The parade features marching bands from all of the local high schools and middle schools, floats from local organizations, veterans, and more. It’s a great time with family and gives you the perfect chance to thank a veteran.

Something else that is wonderful to see around our area is the planting of flags on veterans’ graves. Did you ever wonder how those flags get there? Local veterans donate hours of time to visit cemeteries to remove old, tattered flags from graves and replace them with new flags.

Thank you to all who have served!
