Once again our wonderful town of Doylestown is lucky enough to welcome another new, local business – Doylestown Brewing Company. Their Pub is now officially open and they have more exciting things still to come! And not only are they a local business, they support all things local in everything they do. We are proud to be their neighbor.

Joe Modestine, President and owner of Doylestown Brewing Company, comes from a strong lineage of restauranteurs. In the 1940s, the Modestine family owned the rights to Anheuser-Busch in the Northeastern region of the United States.

Working with recipes that date back to the 1800s, Joe along with his consultant, birthed our flagship beer, the R5 Lager. A clean and crisp American style Lager, far superior to any other Lager on the market, the R5 took off so quickly that our wholesale operations expanded at an unprecedented pace. You can now find R5 Lager in over 40 restaurants and bars in Bucks, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.

In 2013, after an exhausting search, our space in The Marketplace at 22 S. Main Street was found. The build-out for the pub began in May of 2014 when the first fermenters and brew-house components were installed. Bringing years of formal brewing education, our award winning Brewer, Justin Low, started to develop recipes for our Carrie Nation Kolsch, Cinn’aster Stout, and Patriot Pale Ale among others.

After a full year of preparation, The Pub Downstairs officially opened its doors in May 2015. We are proud supporters of all things local. The tables are handmade by Bucks County Craftsmen from reclaimed bard wood and iron piping that lend a cozy feel. The exposed Edison-bulb light fixtures, also handmade, give a warm feeling to the space. The menu holders, the flight boards, and the bar are all locally made. The Pub Downstairs serves 10 draft beers, all are brewed on premise. Award-winning select Pennsylvania wines that will have the most well-versed connoisseur intrigued. Our food partners, Andre’s Wine and Cheese and Spuntino’s Italian keep the menu unique and current and incorporate our beer into some of the menu items.

Knowing that phenomenal customer service is the backbone to any “service business” (and sometimes almost impossible to find these days!), we wanted to create an experience where our customers really felt taken care of; like we actually care about them. At Doylestown Brewing Company, we take a contemporary approach to our service philosophy. Doylestown Brewing Company aims to “treat every customer like a FRIEND in your own kitchen.” Friends who gather in the kitchen of your home don’t stand on formality, they often don’t knock, they prefer to use the backdoor. These people are your cohort, your extended family. The kitchen of a home is warm, it is safe, it is comfortable and it is welcoming. That’s our goal. To make every customer feel like a close personal friend in our “kitchen.”

In fall 2015 DBC will open The Hop Room adjacent to the Pub Downstairs which will be available for private parties and a full service retail shop on the ground floor where one can buy cases, growlers, six packs, and DBC retail merchandise.

The Pub Downstairs is located in the Marketplace at 22 S. Main St. in the lower level and is open Tuesday through Sunday at 11:30 and closing times vary.
